Rebranding our Facebook page: instead of Detector, it will be Sunday Roast
Dear readers:
In the near future, the Detector editorial team is planning to rebrand the page, changing the name, logo, and splash screen. This will be a small cosmetic change that will take place as soon as Facebook allows us to rename the page. Our editorial policy is not changing: we still want to provide you with access to high-quality documentaries created especially for those who like watching videos on their computers, cell phones and tablets, not just on TV. Less attentive viewers might not even notice the change 🙂
The reasons for the name change stem from a small mistake we made at the outset. We had thought that the word “Detector” would encourage viewers to look for more interesting stories and facts. We hoped to be a “radar,” combing through libraries and archives for stories that are worthy of the widest possible audience. Plus, we planned to occasionally explain the context surrounding the world’s biggest news stories. For these purposes, we thought the name Detector was a good fit.
A few months after the launch, we discovered that the name apparently conjured up a somewhat different connotation than what we had hoped for. Some people think we are a technology and gadget publication. Some people think we are primarily focused on news, but we are not.
After a great deal of discussion and debate within the editorial team we have come up with a new name, Sunday Roast. Our mission remains the same: we want to give people information from the world of science and history that they can discuss with their friends and family. There is a tradition in the U.K. called the Sunday Roast. It’s a big meal for a large gathering, including friends and extended family, that is served on a Sunday. People spend time together, eating, relaxing and of course talking. We want to give people things to talk about. Telling stories from the worlds of science, nature, and history is the best way to do this. We don’t want people to argue (as is often the case with news discussions), we want them to enjoy the conversation. We are a company that sets the gold standard in edutainment journalism. We believe that the name Sunday Roast fits our mission perfectly.
As before, you can rely on us: we thoroughly check all the facts, don’t use big headlines, and work to make our viewers feel inspired and erudite.
Stay tuned!
